Datacom incorporates the official Internet quality meter (SIMET) into its routers

Datacom is part of an initiative that is helping to raise the quality standard of the Internet in Brazil. Through a partnership with NIC.br, our DM2500 router now has SIMET embedded in its firmware, allowing continuous and auditable measurements of connection quality.

This feature brings direct benefits to ISPs, operators and public projects, which can now accurately monitor indicators such as throughput, latency, jitter and packet loss, directly on the router, without the need for external equipment.

This is yet another move that reinforces our commitment to innovation and to delivering solutions aligned with the needs of the telecommunications market.

What is the embedded SIMET and what is its function?

The SIMET (Internet Traffic Measurement System) is a tool developed by NIC.br to perform continuous, neutral and independent measurements of connection quality.

With the functionality embedded in the router, it is possible to monitor parameters such as:

  • Throughput
  • Latency
  • Jitter
  • Packet loss

The collected data automatically allows ISPs and operators to monitor the quality of the connection delivered, verify compliance with SLAs and have greater agility in identifying and resolving network problems.

Datacom and SIMET: more control over Internet quality

The incorporation of SIMET into the DM2500 router is in operation in projects such as the federal program Aprender Conectado, bringing monitored connectivity to public schools throughout the country.

Datacom DM2500 router with embedded SIMET. Solution allows continuous measurements of connection quality directly on the equipment.

In addition to this project, the functionality is available to any customer using the DM2500, bringing clear benefits to network management and connectivity contracts.

The main benefits include:

  • Continuous monitoring of connection quality
  • Support for auditing SLAs in public and private contracts
  • More accurate and agile diagnosis of possible instabilities
  • Reduction in the need for external measuring equipment
  • Transparency in network operation

An initiative that strengthens the Internet ecosystem in Brazil

The integration of SIMET into routers is the result of a collaboration between NIC.br and technology manufacturers, including Datacom, who share the goal of offering solutions that contribute to a more robust, reliable and transparent Internet.

The embedded SIMET is aligned with quality practices adopted worldwide and reinforces the importance of measurement as a tool for continuous improvement in access networks.

This is yet another delivery that strengthens Datacom's commitment to its customers and to the development of telecommunications infrastructure in the country.
